(October 29, 2021) – On November 5, 2021, a new Outdoor Dining Program will go into effect in Downtown Tracy as a result of the Tracy City Council’s September 21, 2021 approval of a parklet ordinance and funding to reimburse restaurant owners for construction of the new parklets. These new plans will improve traffic flow by reopening 10th Street and improving visibility, aesthetics, and parking availability in downtown. Additionally, an accessible parking space on 10th Street will be created.
The new Outdoor Dining Program is designed to replace the temporary Downtown Streatery, which was established through an urgency ordinance adopted by Tracy City Council in an effort to support Downtown restaurants to comply with pandemic-related restrictions in July 2020. There has been a high level of community support for outdoor dining in Downtown. On October 13, 2021, 10th Street was reopened to traffic in both directions and the Streatery was removed in preparation for implementation of this new program to ensure long-term outdoor dining remains an essential part of our Downtown Tracy experience.
“Just as we supported our small businesses by establishing the Streatery last year, this program is just one of the ways we can continue to support the economic recovery of our community,” said Mayor Nancy Young. “When we say, ‘we’re all in this together,’ we mean it.”
This program was developed in collaboration with the Tracy City Center Association (TCCA). The City will be waiving application fees to make the program easily accessible and maximize the number of parklets in downtown. TCCA and the City are also working closely with community banking partners to connect our restaurants interested in short-term parklet financing as another implementation option.
“Outdoor dining and the activation of public spaces are critical to the growth and success of our downtown district,” said Dino Margaros, Executive Director for TCCA. “We look forward to transitioning into this new parklet program over the next few months and hope to build upon what has proven to be a successful interim streatery strategy during the COVID-19 pandemic.”
The downtown district boundaries are shown below. Tracy restaurants located outside the Downtown District who are interested in parklet implementation are encouraged to contact the City of Tracy’s Engineering Division by calling (209) 831-6400.
